The Konjac Sponge | Review

Hey guys, today I wanted to share a product with you that you’ve probably never even heard of. Now don’t get me wrong, there won’t be a happy ending to the review, but don’t let that fool you, this product is brilliant at what it does and I do recommend it to you!

It’s the Konjac Facial Puff Sponge, which is made of ‘100% natural vegetable fibre’ claims to act as a ‘mini facial everyday’; sounds great right? Because it is! This sponge is completely biodegradable, and is free from chemicals, colourings, additives and irritants. The company are also certified by the Vegan Society and are also Cruelty-Free – what more could you want! I received this as a present from my parents about a year ago, but only just got around to using it, so I hope that isn’t what caused my problem…

The sponge that I received specifically is the Green Tea enriched sponge, which is said to be the one for purifying the skin, and helping to fight against ageing skin. They also have a wide range of other sponges, such as French Pink Clay, Charcoal and Chamomile.

Onto the good stuff! I often get flaky skin around my nose, that no matter how many times it gets moisturised, will always pop up not long after. I was thinking ‘Nah this won’t do ANYTHING to remove that!’ – oh how I was wrong! See the thing is that when you first take it out, it is hard as a rock – because to use it you need to wet it until it becomes more sponge-like. Now it still isn’t the same feeling as an actual sponge, but once completely wet it feels ever so soft, and does not feel harsh at all on the skin. You also don’t need to use a cleanser to go along with this – it does the work for you! Although you can add one to aid the sponge and make its effects go further.

I absolutely loved the results it gave me! After using it for a minute my skin felt so soft and smooth, and the skin around my nose was gone – no trace of it left. I thought ‘this is great, I can’t believe I waited this long to use it!’, and I looked on the website to read more about it and found out about all the other sponges as well – great stuff.

BUT – I was only able to use this for a pitiful 4 days. Yep. My skin reacted BADLY, like to the point where it was red for a week, and then left it feeling dry and scaly. My theory is that my skin is allergic to green tea – nothing to do with the actual sponge itself. See my skin is not really sensitive, and so something like this happening was such a shock, that the only explanation I can think of is that it was an allergic reaction. Do not let this discourage you though, as you can get the sponge without anything added to it instead!

I do suggest that you give the website a good look at, as they have a lot of products to choose from! The only (other) downside is that since the sponges are natural, they only last for about 2-3 months at a time, and so if you were really happy with the results you’d need to repurchase about 4 a year. I personally would have done this – and still might if I find a different one that I don’t end up being allergic to. For now I am going to give my skin a long time to get over this very scarring time of my life, and just focus on the things I know don’t irritate my skin!

Have you ever heard of this company before? Do you seem interested in trying it?

As always,

Love, Emily x
