Lip products for me are what complete my makeup look, whether it be purely lip liner, a bullet lipstick, or some lip gloss for the natural look. Today I wanted to talk about these lovely products, and hopefully get to know what your thoughts are too! There are so many options when it comes to lip products, we all have our favourites, and sometimes things that we absolutely can’t stand. I’m going to share what my personal favourites are so far, and what I haven’t found to be standout products.
I think that bullet lipsticks are definitely my preferred choice, however not all of them are the same! Favourites currently include Charlotte Tilbury ‘Pillow Talk’ | review | and Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in ‘Sheer Liar’, both of them are smooth and creamy, and don’t bunch up when I press my lips together. I will say that I also prefer either matte lipsticks since they usually apply much nicer than creams do, which I find take longer to make sure that it is settled into my lips well. I definitely need to stop buying creamy lipsticks when I know that they don’t work as well for me, but that requires me to curb my desires!
I’m pretty sure that the hype for liquid lips has died down in the last year, since a lot of people have realised that the matte look isn’t necessarily the best. Of course I do own a few, because who didn’t when it was a trend? I will say that some are definitely better than others, such as Colourpop’s Ultra Satin Lips and Ultra Blotted Lips | review | – both of which are not as drying as their matte formula which I found to be okay, but not really suitable for everyone. Whilst I’ve only tried a limited edition mini set from Anastasia Beverly Hills, I will say that their formula does feel quite good despite being somewhat drying, but then again I’m pretty sure all matte liquid lips are at least a little bit. Currently I don’t plan on purchasing anymore liquid lipsticks since I think I do prefer bullets, but I’m curious to see whether brands continue to release them in future.
Even though lip glosses have been around probably since the dawn of time, it feels like they’ve started to come back into style, with more brands releasing clear lips glosses to appeal to the masses. Off the top of my head I know that Buxom have been known to have excellent lip glosses, and currently the frontrunners in the beauty space are the Glossier Clear Lip Gloss and Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bombs. Whilst I really want to try out Fenty’s offerings, I need to use some from my own collection first! My standout so far is actually the e.l.f Lip Plumping Gloss, which is a really nice formula, and doesn’t make your lips feel like they are burning even though it’s a plumper. I am very tempted to buy some more shades of the gloss and create my own little collection of them, and for £6 each they are a bargain too.
That’s it for this post, and these are just some of my favourite formulas that I’ve tried so far – I’m always looking for new products to try though, so if you have any absolute cruelty-free favourites, let me know and I’ll check them out!
Love, Emily x
