Fenty Beauty | First Impressions + Swatches

In today’s post I’m sharing with you my initial thoughts on Fenty Beauty! A little while ago I finally took the plunge and purchased two bronzers, two blushes, and three lip glosses. I’d been wanting to try out the powder bronzer for a while, but when the cream bronzer came out along with the blushes I just knew I needed to try them! Even though it’s titled first impressions I have worn each product a few times now, so I’m quite confident in my feelings about them.

Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer + Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Bronzer

As I’m fairly pale I chose the shade Inda Sun in the Sun Stalk’r Powder Bronzer, but I could definitely get away with using the second darkest shade too, as I’ve found that the powder is not as pigmented as some others I’ve used before. The fact that it’s not as pigmented means that you don’t have to worry about being too heavy with it, as it is also quite densely packed, leaving no fallout even after swirling my brush in a few times. I do enjoy that the formula is one you need to build up, as it really helps to add that sun-kissed glow instead of being obvious that it is makeup. The bronzer never becomes too overpowering, and I think that it’s a great option for lighter makeup days or everyday wear – if you’re looking for some heavy duty makeup for a night out, I’d probably go with something more pigmented, as this is more on the natural side.

We then have the Cheeks Out Cream Bronzer in Butta Biscuit, the second shade of the line up but the first that resembles a bronzer, as the first shade is more of a contour shade. I’ve never really had much experience with cream bronzers before, so this was new to me! Compared to the powder bronzer it comes off as being a tad more orange toned, more like an actual tan rather than a warmth from within. However, this doesn’t ruin the bronzer overall as it’s only slightly different, as I’m sure you can see in the swatches below. It applies well with both a brush and a sponge, and builds up well too, more than the powder bronzer in my opinion. This shade would be perfect for pale to light-medium skin tones due to how it can be applied sheerly or built up!

Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush

Next up we have the two Cheeks Out Cream Blushes in Petal Poppin and Strawberry Drip, both of which are swatched down below. I chose these two colours as they were unique to my collection, and I do love a good pink! It’s hard to see on camera but both of these actually have really fine gold flecks running through them, although they don’t appear when used on the cheeks – it’s probably to help make them appear dewy and reflect the light better. Petal Poppin is a gorgeous rosy pink that I think would look stunning on both warm and cool toned skin, as it is quite neutral in colour, whereas Strawberry Drip is a deeper pink with more of a red base, but despite how scary it looks it is lovely on the cheeks!

Both of these colours apply the same and wear really well on the cheeks, along with being really easy to build up if that’s the look you’re going for. Another thing to note is that the pans are actually quite small, like smaller than I thought they would be! I know that some people found them to be too small, however I think it is actually more user friendly to be as small as they are, since it takes quite a while for someone to use up an entire blush. Being smaller also means that they would be really easy to chuck into your makeup bag without taking up much room, and this is also an extra win as they can be applied using your fingers unlike powders – so a win win really!

Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer

Ever since these first launched people were raving about them, and then as the collection grew further I became more intrigued. Since lately I’ve been preferring lip glosses, I thought now was the perfect time to snap up some of the Gloss Bomb Lip Luminizers – and so I bought three: Fenty Glow, Fu$$y, and Sweet Mouth. As you can see from the swatches below, Fenty Glow is more warm, with a strong orange tone to it, however once applied to the lips it really does turn into a ‘my lips but better colour’ and doesn’t come off as being the orangey colour it looks like. Fu$$y is a really pretty deeper pink that somehow also looks like my natural lip colour, but with a pinky tone instead – if that makes sense! Finally, Sweet Mouth is a lighter, more dustier pink that almost comes off as clear with a pink shift – whilst this looks quite frosty in the tube, on the lips it blends in really nicely and doesn’t leave you looking like you’ve just dipped your lips in sugar (frosty? sugary? best examples I could come up with!).

When I first tried these I was quite surprised as they are nothing like I’ve tried from a gloss before. Compared to the slight tackiness of normal gloss formulations, these were much thinner and more like a liquid than a gloss – however this did not affect how they felt on the lips in the slightest! Applying the gloss is so quick and easy, and I find that the larger doe foot applicator allows me to cover my lips without having to dip back into the tube. Due to how much smoother it is I’d be wary of making sure that it doesn’t ‘bunch up’ at the top/bottom of your lip, which can be easily corrected using the applicator to soften the edges. Whilst the formula is not ‘sticky’ like we’ve become accustomed to, it is a product that remains wet on your lips, therefore if your hair gets anywhere near it there is a good chance it will still stick to your lips. Now I did test this out my throwing my hair at my lips and can say that if your hair does stick it isn’t hard to pull it off with this formula, but just know that your hair may still get caught!
