Since I moved into my current bedroom I thought I was content with the theme of the room – red wallpaper and everything to match. However that just isn’t me, and red is for the most part not my vibe. On the other hand, as I’ve grown older I’ve realised that I love pink, and so after much deliberation I decided it was time for a bedroom makeover. In this post I go over everything from the paint, to the Etsy stores where I purchased new decorations, and more. I am especially excited as this is also my first collaboration, and I hope you find my room as appealing as I think it is!
Painting & Furniture
Luckily for me I didn’t need to buy any new furniture to fit my new colour scheme, as everything is classic IKEA other than my bed, which I purchased from a bed store local to me. In the future I would like to add more wood tones into the room, potentially getting a new TV stand in a dark wood to bring earthy tones in along with my plants, which are currently sitting on the kitchen table until everything is finalised!
The white shelves are all from Homebase a while ago, although I’m absolutely sure you can find many similar ones that will look exactly the same. I also picked up three hanging wood shelves from The Rustic Looks on Etsy, as they were really cute and as I said before, I need more wood tones! A vital bit of furniture that I am missing is a proper chair for my desk, as currently I am using my pink velvet ottoman from Dunelm Mill, however it isn’t the best for my back so that is something I will also get in the near future. I also need new curtains, but luckily I don’t need it pitch black to fall asleep!
For paint, we went with two colours from B&Q’s own range of paints. The largest wall is painted in a light pink shade called Kyoto, whereas the other walls are painted with an off white called Quebec. As the ceiling is already white, and since the majority of my furniture is white, I didn’t want a pure white, and instead settled on a slightly grey toned white, which actually fits really well as it also has a hint of pink in it depending on the light in the room.
Artwork & Prints
Onto the best part of this post! I was thrilled to be contacted by Photowall, a Swedish company specialising in personalised wall art, with a ton of artwork to choose from on their website – or you even have the option to upload your own photo! They offer canvases, framed prints, wallpaper, and wall murals too – all designed with love in their main office. I knew when decorating my room that I’d need a print to go over my bed, and it was perfect timing that I was able to choose one from Photowall! I chose the piece ‘Even The Rocks Cry Out‘ on a canvas that I was able to size according to what I needed, which isn’t usually something you have the ability to do with other companies.

When the canvas arrives it comes in a box with everything you need to set it up, and I must say that it was really easy to put together, even if you aren’t DIY savvy! Instructions on how to build it come in the box, but I also watched their video tutorial first just to make sure I did everything correct. The video is only 30 seconds long but it showed me exactly how to do it, and I realised just how easy it really was. Then onto the fun part – putting it on the wall! I’ll admit that I was extremely proud of the measurements that I’d made, as it fit exactly where I wanted it above my bed, right in line with the pencil markings. It really helps to fill the empty space I had above my bed previously, but now I can confidently say that the space looks fantastic!

All of my other prints have been purchased from smaller shops on Etsy, which is an online marketplace I really like if you couldn’t tell! One of my favourite pieces is my ‘Fresh Out of F*cks Forever‘ print, which is a lyric from Venice B*tch by Lana Del Rey. As soon as I saw this I knew I needed it, and it works very well with my room too which is an extra plus. I then have my PVRIS album artwork that I got from a shop called HunkyDoryPrints, however I can’t find them anymore which is unfortunate! To go with my makeup collection I got a cute watercolour print of makeup brushes in a candle jar (typical I know) from The Homely Boutique, however in a lot of ways I am a basic bitch, so it works perfectly. Finally, I have an ode to ‘Hard Times’ by Paramore with the ‘Hit Me With Lightning‘ print from Don’t Die Club, a small store that offers quirky prints for a really good price – I want to get a Phoebe Bridgers print too!
Decorations & Plants
I want more plants, who doesn’t? First I need to move my other ones into my room, then I’ll definitely get some more. Anyway, I mostly get my plants directly from Morrisons, even the pots! There’s something about the plant section that draws me in, and then when they actually come in a nice pot all under one price I am sold. I have a Fern in an old pot because I haven’t got around to getting a new one yet, but it’s okay! He originally lived in my room, then had to be moved downstairs as he was clearly dying, now he’s back in my room and thriving – my room gets quite hot in the summer, so it was probably that. I then have a Common Ivy in it’s original pot, just to add a little touch to the room, nothing fancy! Downstairs I have a Snake Plant and my beautiful Monstera, who I love with my whole heart.
Onto the final part, my decorations! I don’t have many, but one of my favourites are these pink quartz coasters from ShopOpenHeartxo, who have a lot of crystal themed items, perfect for a small gift. I also recently bought a white blanket from B&Q because I saw it and thought it would look nice, so I bought it then and there – I’m not usually this impulsive! Even though I already have a few bed cover sets, when I saw this reversible pink and grey set from ASDA I wanted it, and I’m so glad as it goes perfectly with everything in my room. Finally I have these warm white LED lights that I’ve finally got around to putting up, and I love them so much! They give my room such an ethereal look when it’s dark outside but I don’t want my big middle light on.

I really hope you enjoyed this post, and if there’s anything I’ve missed that you’re interested in just let me know! Also don’t forget to use the code ’emiliamarlowe25′ to get 25% off an order with Photowall until 31/1/2021.
